Framed for people who arrived by searching for antioxidant support, and who have probably already discovered that the word has been worn smooth by overuse. Nearly every consumable on earth is marketed as an antioxidant. The term has stopped carrying information.

What is worth distinguishing is where a preparation acts and how the effect is observed. Bacillus F is not a dietary polyphenol and not a vitamin — it is a metabolite fraction from an organism whose defining characteristic is persistence under conditions that degrade most biological material.

The interesting question was never whether the organism survived — it demonstrably did. It was what mechanisms allowed it to, and whether the compounds involved do anything measurable outside the organism.

How it works

Oxidative stress is the imbalance between reactive oxygen species produced during ordinary metabolism and the systems that neutralise them. It is not a disease; it is a normal process that becomes consequential when the balance tips over long periods. Among the things affected is DNA integrity, which is why the reference method here images DNA directly.

The comet assay — single-cell gel electrophoresis — is that method. Cells are embedded in agarose, lysed until only DNA remains, then placed in an electric field. Intact DNA is too large to migrate; fragmented DNA moves and forms a visible tail whose length and intensity quantify damage in that individual cell.

One practical note on stacking: if you already take a high-dose isolated antioxidant, it is worth reviewing whether you still want to. The trial evidence for mega-dosing single compounds is poor, and in specific populations it was actively unfavourable. A modest, documented preparation alongside a whole-food diet is a more defensible position than escalating doses of one isolated molecule.
